The process of translation revision is divided into two areas of work: proofreading and editing, both of which are aimed at content for publication but focus on different aspects and use different techniques.
Proofreading is the process of examining a text and looking for errors in spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation, typos, and other unintentional mistakes. Style, tone of voice, and flow of information are irrelevant here, as the work focuses on the correctness of the text.
Editing involves working on the content with the intention of improving the flow and style of the writing. I can proofread your texts in Italian, translated from English and Chinese, and I can also rewrite them, enriching the text if the vocabulary is too poor, improving the syntax and correcting any typos.
A third type of proofreading is machine translation post-editing, also known as MTPE. The quality of a machine translation can vary depending on a number of factors, including the quality of the training data used to develop the engine. In this case, my job will be to file the quality of the raw output of the machine translation to improve the readability of the text and to correct errors.
When proofreading, editing, or post-editing your documents, I will help you keep your company or agency's voice loud and resonant, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and quality of any of your written communication.
